Sous Chef
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled, high-energy Sous Chef to oversee daily kitchen operations, lead our culinary team, and maintain exceptional food quality. As second-in-command, you will manage shift logistics, train line cooks, control food costs, and step in as leader when the Executive Chef is absent. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, possesses strong leadership skills, and maintains high standards of cleanliness and safety.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise Operations: Manage day-to-day kitchen workflow, assign line stations, and enforce food safety regulations.
- Expedite Service: Coordinate incoming orders during peak hours to ensure timely, high-quality dish execution.
- Staff Management: Hire, train, schedule, and mentor line cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers.
- Inventory Control: Order ingredients, track kitchen inventory, minimize waste, and help manage food costs.
- Quality Assurance: Inspect all incoming ingredients for freshness and ensure final plates match restaurant standards.
- Menu Collaboration: Assist the Executive Chef in designing new menu items, testing recipes, and creating daily specials.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
- Experience: 2–4 years of experience as a Lead Line Cook, Station Chef, or Sous Chef in a high-volume kitchen.
- Education: High school diploma required; a degree in Culinary Arts or Apprenticeship certification is highly preferred.
- Certifications: Active ServSafe Manager certification (or local equivalent food handler license).
- Technical Skills: Mastery of advanced knife skills, cooking techniques, portion control, and kitchen equipment operation.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long shifts (8–10+ hours), lift up to 50 pounds, and work in hot conditions.
- Availability: Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays according to business needs.
Grooming
- All employees must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance per restaurant standards. Professional uniform attire required.
